city center and 17 km from Bafra District.
Located at the eastern end of the Kızılırmak
Delta, the district has Atakum District to the
east and south, Bafra District to the west,

3.5 km, Dereköy waterfront: 7 km, Yörükler
waterfront: 12 km). A significant part of the

The district, which joined the Ottoman
lands in the 15th century, is a region where
the Genoese ruled before the Ottomans.
Starting its municipal history with the name
"Engiz", the district took the name "Ballıca"
in 1961. Today, the district is named "19
Mayıs" (May 19, referring to 19th of May,
1919) in reference to the Turkish National
           Struggle.

           Agriculture, animal husbandry, fishing and
tourism are the main economic activities
in the district. The fact that the district has
a unique coast, contributes to tourism.
           Kumcağız, Yörükler and Engiz localities
start to host tourists from the spring. In the
summer, festivals are organized at the peak
           of Nebiyan Mountain.
